We read year-round. We pay.

Arid welcomes poetry, prose, and photography rooted in the desert Southwest. We are looking for work that reflects sustained attention to the region — not a postcard of it.

Poetry

Send 3–5 poems in a single PDF. Whitespace, indentation, and line breaks are honored exactly as you set them; please make the PDF look the way you want the page to look. We have no length limit, but most of what we publish is under three pages.

Prose

Essays, fiction, dispatches, and short reviews. Up to 5,000 words. We are especially open to work that resists the usual formal categories.

Photography

We are now accepting photography submissions for Issue 02. Send 6–12 images as a single PDF or low-resolution gallery link. If we select work, we will request high-resolution files. We pay per image and license non-exclusively.

What we pay

Currently $50 per poem, $150 per prose piece, $75 per published photograph. Rates rise as the magazine does.
